Transmog Time: Link from The Legend of Zelda

Back before the world revamp for Cataclysm, Un'Goro Crater housed a ton of Nintendo references. You could find an NPC named Linken that would give out a few quests that had some pretty unique rewards. I still have my Faded Photograph, but none of the other items. Linken can now be found as one of the random party members that joins you during The Protectors of Hyjal daily.

Last month, I ordered The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. I didn't even get a chance to play it yet since I've been finishing up Yoshi's New Island in between redoing my Animal Crossing: New Leaf town. It's no secret that I've been a fan of the Zelda games since I owned my Nintendo way back when I was a small child, and one of my all time favorite games is Ocarina of Time. I know a lot of people tend to do a Mario transmog, but I hardly ever see anyone doing one of Link. As always, this is catered to cloth wearers, and I think it looks wonderful on humans and blood elves!

Helm: Feralfen Hood
Shoulders: Resilient Mantle
Boots: Resilient Boots
Main Hand: Azuresong Mageblade
Off-Hand: Khadgar's Knapsack (for your Rupees, of course!)

As a few more things to make the look a bit more authentic, I suggest using the Nordrassil Wisp mini pet that can be caught in Mount Hyjal; It makes for a great looking Navi! I used WoWmodel Viewer to be able to mount an Alliance mount on the Blood Elf, but they have plenty of other horse options for you to pick from. I think this look is perfect for any adventurer who wants to take down the evil Gannon... er, I mean Garrosh!

The Best Things To Do In WoW

This topic couldn't have come at a better time. I love WoW, but this is the first time in a long time that I feel like I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for things to do. Last week Mr. and Mrs. WoW asked for some suggestions on things to do in WoW before WoD comes out. Now this wasn't just to be your average, gear up alts, clean out banks, etc., this was supposed to be things that you loved and enjoyed doing! I've been playing a lot lately with my niece, nephew, and some of their friends. They are all still very new to the game, and this is their first expansion where they are max level. We've been going around and collecting things here in there.

1. Achievements
Lately, we have been going back and trying to get them for titles, mounts, and just the general satisfaction of having them done. I'm not finding them as annoying as I previously did. I've also noticed that like me, most of my friends are also going back and getting as many MoP achievements done as they can. I love doing this because this allows me to focus on the new content that comes out without having to sweat about going back to the old world.

2. Pet Battles
I'm pretty behind on this, and I need to focus on this in the upcoming weeks. My goal was to have at least every mini pet to level 10 before WoD. I also have all the wild mini pets already caught, but if someone doesn't, this could be a fun thing to do, if you like that sort of thing.

3. Old Raids
There is always someone out there who is looking to get that certain tier set or even that one perfect piece to complete their transmog. Not to mention some of the really awesome mounts that have a chance to drop. While we have a schedule of what we run weekly - ICC, Ulduar, Firelands, sometimes Dragon Soul, a few weeks back I decided to spice things up with a naked Molten Core run. It was really fun, and we plan to eventually go back and continue on with Blackwing Lair!

Of course amid all of this stuff, I am leveling up some alts to prepare them, but I don't really consider that fun all the time. I do have to say, I'm enjoying questing in Northrend with my mage on Madoran. Anyway, I hope this may have given you some ideas on things to do if you're feeling bored. I also look forward to reading what others are doing to pass their time until WoD.

10 Years 10 Questions

Last week, AlternativeChat posed a unique little challenge for us in honor of WoW's 10th Anniversary - 10 Years 10 Questions. Since I wanted to take part, and I'm not really good with talking or recording videos, I decided to answer the questions here on my blog. If you would also like to participate, please click the link above to the Godmother's site and check it out. Now, here are my answers.

1. Why did you start playing Warcraft?
I started playing WoW because many of my friends at the time were playing. When my boyfriend set up his account, I ended up making my first character there to try out the game. I was hooked ever since! If it weren't for my friends pushing me to give it a chance, I don't think I would have ever tried it because I thought paying a monthly fee for a game was silly.

2. What was the first ever character you rolled?
My first character was a troll priest that I originally made on my boyfriend's account. I'm not sure what I named her, but I know I was questing in The Barrens eventually. Sadly, she is no longer with us today.

3. Which factors determined your faction choice in game?
Hm, I'm not really sure. I definitely knew that all of my friends were playing Horde at the time, so that definitely swayed me into going with that faction. I also saw most of the Alliance races as being boring and bland. While I do have Alliance characters now, my allegiance remains true to the Horde!
Lok'tar ogar!
4. What has been your most memorable moment in Warcraft and why?
My most memorable moment has to be when my Burning Crusade guild finally downed Leotheras the Blind. I don't know why it was such a glorious moment, but it was. I guess it was because we were working on him for a long time. It was also the night that I got my Fang of the Leviathan, so that's why that sword is so special to me.

5. What is your favourite aspect of the game and has this always been the case?
Collecting! I've always been a collector. My bank and bags were always filled with mini pets and mounts. I also used to collect old gear and wear it around the city before we had transmog. I'm definitely grateful for Blizzard continuing to add more storage options, because I really do need it! Hah!

6. Do you have an area in game that you always return to?
Yes, it's Azshara. I used to like it back in BC because it was a quiet place I could go and level up my fishing. Now I visit from time to time when I'm passing through Orgrimmar. I still love the colors of the zone, but I'm sad a lot of my favorite places there aren't in game anymore.

7. How long have you /played and has that been continuous?
I've been playing WoW since 2007. I took a two/three month break during WotLK when I was having computer issues and my old guild was falling apart. Since then, I have played continuously. Below is the amount of time I've played on Vel.

8. Admit it: do you read quest text or not?
I always read quest text on my first play through. So usually on Vel, it takes me a while to finish off leveling because I like to know what's going on in each zone through the questing. On my alts, I usually just blaze through it, unless it's my Alliance character. Sometimes they have quests that aren't available to Horde. I like to read those also. :)

9. Are there any regrets from your time in game?
Not really. I've always been nice, and did pretty much what I wanted. If I could go back, maybe I would have joined a new raiding guild for WotLK, because I think experiencing ICC with a guild for the first time would have been pretty amazing.

10. What effect has Warcraft had on your life outside gaming?
Warcraft has brought me together with so many people I would have probably never met if I hadn't played the game. It has offered me many funny times to share with my friends. It's empowered me to take risks in life, be the adventurer I want to be, forge my own legacy. It's inspired me to continue writing. To me, WoW will always have a special place in my heart. :)

Whispers of Tirisfall Part 2

Tirisfall Glades houses many areas that hold "whispers" - the Whispering Forest, Whispering Shores, and Whispering Gardens. While the forest and shore are in close proximity with one another, the gardens are located around Scarlet Monastery. Supposedly they hold the whispers of the dead from a battle between the Scourge and the Scarlet Crusade. After visiting, I heard no such thing, so I'm not sure if they are linked. However, if you think about how you can still hear the "whispers" from the event of Arthas killing his father in the Throne Room of Lordaeron, then the lands of Tirisfall do tend hold on to the memories of past events.

The Whispering Shores are also rumored to be the place where Dath'Remar Sunstrider and his fleet touched shore. You can find remains of old High Elf ships on the shores close to Scarlet Monastery. Here is an excerpt from WoWpedia:

"Sunstrider led the high elven fleets across the world for many long years. Their goal was to find places of considerable ley power for them to build their new homeland. After landing on the Lordaeron continent, they moved inland and formed a settlement in the Tirisfal Glades. After a few years, however, many were driven insane. The belief at the time was that something evil slept beneath the Glades, so the high elves abandoned the region and moved northwards."

We know that the beings who love to whisper madness and insanity into all those around them are the Old Gods. They are what drove Neltharion (Deathwing) to insanity. We saw his madness take on the form of destruction in Cataclysm. I found this piece of information about Fairy Rings in old folklore pretty interesting:

"In Tyrol, folklore attributed fairy rings to the fiery tails of flying dragons; once a dragon had created such a circle, nothing but toadstools could grow there for seven years."

The fiery flying dragons sounds a lot like Deathwing. He did fly over the whole of Azeroth and left immense damage in his path. Perhaps something in the Whispering Forest was awoken by this. Looking at the patch notes, this area became named during patch 4.2 in Cataclysm (6-28-2011). Since there are seven Fey-Drunk Darter's that spawn, perhaps if WoW is still around in 2018, we can see if the fairy circle will open up a portal to another realm. ;)

Of course, I am hoping that N'zoth will be the next Old God we will encounter, and I even wrote an entire speculation post before the Dark Below was proven to be a hoax expansion. While I still think N'zoth has more to do with the sea and Lady Azshara, he is still linked to the Emerald Dream in lore. Let's take a look at the Glyph of One With Nature. This is a Druid glyph that has a chance to teleport the player to a random location... the Whispering Forest is one of those locations. Since Druids have been responsible in the past for keeping the nightmares from the Emerald Dream at bay, this location could hold a secret. While I do not believe this is the Rift of Aln, I do believe that it could be another smaller rift that could open up the Emerald Nightmare. I believe the Fey are protecting whatever it is and possibly using their lullaby to keep the evil calm and hopefully asleep.

I believe that the evil that sleeps beneath the Glades is still there and active, and I'm still holding on to it being an Old God or maybe a portal to another world. Even though Blizzard has said there isn't an Old God under there, they did acknowledge that there is something, and it is extremely powerful. Blizzard has been known to go back and fourth on their word, so I take everything they say with a few grains of salt. You never know what could change. So, what do you think is buried underneath Tirisfall Glades? Let me know in the comments below.
