Hooked on Mini Pets

I can't believe I've had this blog for almost the entire time I've been playing WoW and haven't went into detail about what got me hooked on my favorite things to collect in game - mini pets! This post came to mind as I was preparing to clean up my WarcraftPet's profile. I figured it would be better to put this here since I have more room to talk about it.

I often like to ask people, what was the first mini pet you remember getting? I'm pretty positive mine were the Senegal and Cockatiel off of Narkk in Booty Bay. I clearly remember keeping one on me and placing the other in my bank. Not long after that I remember running Deadmines and getting the Green Wing Macaw to drop from there. I felt like a pirate!

I went on with my WoW life, still not completely hooked on collecting. I remember when the Azure Whelpling was released in patch 2.3 (The Zul'Aman patch). It was pretty highly sought after on my server at least. I had a friend who wanted it really bad. I used to fish in Azshara probably more than I'd like to admit, so I passed the blue dragonkins that dropped it quite often. Well one day when I was passing, I killed one, and it dropped. I was shocked and quite excited. This began my unhealthy obsession with collecting mini pets!

It's around this time that I made friends with another collector. He's now my oldest Warcraft friend, and we still talk to this day. I'm not sure what got him to start collecting, but we were always talking about who got what pet most recently, and what pet we were going for next. I clearly remember us both hunting for the Black Tabby off of the Ambermill Spellscribe. I'm not sure who got their's first, but I remember we both eventually got it. I also remember by the end of Burning Crusade we both had no more room in our banks/bags for anymore pets since they weren't a learned spell yet!

I also remember some of my more frustrating times. I used to kill so many pirates for the Hyacinth Macaw, but I never was lucky enough to get it to drop. I also used to spend hours upon hours in the Swamp of Sorrows farming for the Emerald Whelp. It was so bad that I remember a guildie asking me why in the world was I always there, hah. I have no regrets on any of this or the amount of gold I've probably spent on getting some of the rarer ones. The only regret I have is that I didn't start playing the game early enough to get a vanilla collectors edition!

I've also met so many wonderful people through the WarcraftPets community, and just in general from collecting pets. They start conversations, and I love it when I can gift unsuspecting people with a pet they don't have. I can't wait to see what's in store for mini pets, and as always, I'm looking forward to expanding my collection!

A New Year!

I am back! While I did enjoy my break away from blogging and the holidays, I am sure glad both are over. I have so many exciting things to talk about, a few Blog Azeroth topics I want to write about, and a few posts that have been in the making for a looooong time that I need to finish up.

First I wanted to talk about some new goodies I managed to gather up over the holidays. I added a Rascal Bot and Blackfuse Bombling to my collection. I also ended up winning the mini pet competition that Erinys over at Harpy's Nest was hosting. For my prize I was able to pick a mini pet so I told her either the Brew Pup or Lil' XT would do. She definitely surprised me with the Enchanted Fey Dragon and Brew Pup! I was thrilled because I never really buy the store mounts. This was definitely one of the best gifts I could have ever received!

My boyfriend also bought me Lil' XT before the sale was over since it was the last store mini pet (except for the Gryphon w/ plush) that I'm missing. My collection feels really wonderful... I just need to spend more time leveling them up now!

I also was able to finally finish my Tier 3 on Christmas night! How exciting! I would love to talk more about that, but I have a post dedicated to how much and how long it took me to get there. expect that coming up in the next week or so.

Finally, I figured that a new year meant that I should probably change up my blog a little bit. I decided to do new colors and a new banner image. Nothing crazy, but I think it definitely suits the silly little images I make. You can see a few more of them if you follow me on Twitter.

Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone! Hopefully 2014 will definitely give me some interesting things to blog about. Vel needs some more adventures!

Holiday Spirit

This is going to be my last blog post for this year! I cannot believe it, but we've all made it through yet another year. This year I took the steps throwing my blog out there and gaining more readers. Through the use of Twitter and sites like Blog Azeroth, Twisting Nether Wiki, and WarcraftPets, not only has my blog flourished, but I also made new friends!

In the midsts of all the chaos going on this week (my boyfriend's graduation and moving), I got a FB message from a WoW friend asking for some information, but I wasn't allowed to ask any questions as to why she needed it. I obliged, and went on my merry way of getting some housework done. When I logged on to Vel later that day, I was stunned and speechless. She gifted me two of the mini pets that I had been missing from my collection (Cinder Kitten and Blossoming Ancient)! Seriously, when I say it, I mean it... I have the BEST friends in WoW!

named Rain and Dark after my friends!

That being said, I'm extremely excited for Winter Veil to start next week. While I don't think internet at our new place will be set up right away, I will still try to log on everyday to at least get a few things done. I figured it would just be easier to give myself and Velgana a break so we can both settle in and enjoy the holidays. I'll be planning out new content, and you can still catch me on Twitter and around Azeroth, but this blog is going /AFK until next year!

Thank you to all my readers and friends... Have a Happy Holidays! See you in 2014!

Echeyakee

I had some friends who rolled new Horde hunters and accidently completed the quest to summon Echeyakee before they realized they wanted to tame him. So after doing some research, I realized I had a character that never completed the quest and could summon the white lion.

While you can always get Sian-Rotam, this can always be a pain camping due to the level requirement of Winterspring, spawn time, and CRZ.

I have decided that if there are any hunters out there, Horde or Alliance, that want this pet, I'm available to summon him! Just leave me a comment here and we can work something out!

Moonfang is Here!

Greeting everyone! I'm done with a long day of playing around at the Darkmoon Faire. I hung out with some people from Skywall, drowned myself to visit the ghost around the Darkmoon Isle, and hunted down Moonfang!

As of me writing this blog post, I've killed Moonfang a total of 12 times! Here is my loot breakdown (minus the 3 times I didn't get loot) :
Moonfang's Pelt x1 - I think you get this on your first kill. It's a quest turn in.
Moonfang Shroud x2
Moon Moon x2 - I kept one and the other one went to my boyfriend!
Moonfang's Paw x2 - This is the item that transforms you into a wolf. There is another Paw that is a fist weapon!
Shimmering Moonstone x2

So after being there all day, I know that people really don't understand how Moonfang spawns. I ended up explaining it to a few people since trade is mostly very unhelpful and full of elitist idiots. Anyway, yes Moonfang will spawn every hour, but no, it's not really at a set time because it all depends on if the wolves are being killed and how fast.

First you will be looking for the smaller non-elite Moonfang Snarler's to spawn.
About a handful of them will spawn around the wooded area on the side where Moonfang will spawn. Your goal is to kill these in order to start the next step of the event. After all of these are killed, some text will pop up in the middle of your screen.

Beware: "Moonfang Dreadhowls roam the woods!"
I think about six or so of the Moonfang Dreadhowl's will spawn, but only two or three have to be killed in order for the next part of the event to happen. After the Moonfang Dreadhowl's are down, some more text will pop up stating that Moonfang has spawned!

"Beware: Den Mother Moonfang has appeared in the woods!"
The fight is not incredibly difficult, but if you're a softie clothie like me, you probably will die. /cries All I have to say is thank goodness that the graveyard isn't far away! If you're having trouble finding the spot, just look for all the skeletons! Moonfang's kill/loot system is just like the Timeless Isle rares. Anyone who attacks her will be eligible to loot her! I can only hope they make the Darkmoon Rabbit like that... anyway...

"Moonfang, Den Mother of Darkmoon Island, has been slain!"

Also, don't worry if you don't get any loot. It's not a bug... you just didn't get anything. Moonfang doesn't drop any vendor trash so either you will get one of the goodies from her loot table or nothing at all. As of October 7th, Moonfang will always drop something when defeated! And if you get an item to drop that you already have and can't pick it up, the good old Postmaster will mail it to you just in case!

I hope you all had a successful first day just like I did. If not, don't worry, the Darkmoon Faire lasts an entire week so you should have time to get all the goodies that you want! :)

Bear butts!

Timeless Isle - First Thoughts

Free trip around the Isle! Wheeee!
So with 5.4 hitting yesterday, I thought I would give my first thoughts on the Timeless Isle. Let me start off by saying that I enjoyed it so much I ended up playing for almost 13 hours. I peeled myself away from my computer around 1:30 or so last night. I didn't get all the screenshots I would have liked, but I was in the moment and that's all that mattered.

When I arrived to the isle for the first time, it was littered with skeletons, but I quickly figured that out why later! I must have died more than a dozen times last night... and all I was doing was hunting rare spawns! The Alliance definitely outnumber Horde on my server. Everywhere you turned you saw yellow! I had to be very careful when looting stuff not to accidentally hit one of them to make me flag up. It's times like this I am so glad I do not play on a PvP server.

Me and my friend on Huolon watch!
The first things I did on the Isle where pick up my quests and explore. I opened so many chests and was actually able to get quite a lot of gear for my alts. In fact, I managed to get more pieces from rares last night that I need to send to them. I also want to try to get myself a trinket piece because I looted a burden blah blah from a chest in things cave. The Celestial's didn't give me a piece of gear... just gold.

I tried out the Celestial Tournament. I managed to beat the 3 tamers very easily, but the Celestials were really hard! I definitely need to work on getting some more pets up to level 25 before I attempt that again! I did manage to get a few new mini pets:
Ashwing Moth
Flamering Moth
Skywisp Moth
Skunky Alemental
and my friend got me an Azure Crane Chick

This rare spawn bug was bugged... Har, har, har!
While I will be playing around on the isle again today, I will definitely be taking it a lot slower, hehe. While fun right now, on a server like mine, I can see it being pretty dead really fast... which will make it a dangerous place to be in!

The Magical Mr. Pinchy

Mr. Pinchy... where do I begin...

I actually fished and got my Magical Crawdad during the Burning Crusades, so when I decided to take up this task again, I didn't quite remember how much of a pain it was and STILL is!

Mr. Pinchy having a well balanced meal.
Here are the things that changed for the better. First, the pool spawns used to only pop up every 30 minutes or so. Now it seems that after you fish in one, you can guarantee another will be up in one of the other locations. Second, and best thing of all is now Mr. Pinchy is on a 4 hour cooldown. It used to have a 2 day cooldown which really made it frustrating to get him!

Fishing skill required: I would go for at least 300+ just to be on the safe side!
Flying mount required! (or someone to bring you there!)

So get your fishing poles, and let's head to Outlands - namely Terokkar Forest! You're looking for the pools called Highland Mixed Pools which of course, only spawn in the "highlands".

Here's the wonderful part, you have 3 locations where you can chose to fish from!

Lake Jorune

Lake Ere'Noru

Blackwind Lake

I really like fishing from  Lake Jorune and Lake Ere'Noru because I was tending to get a lot of unwanted attention at Blackwind Lake. Some Alliance leveling up would follow me and fish from the same pools as me just to be annoying! Also it's a daily hub for the Sha'tari Skyguard so you may have some competition there.

You'll get BC fish and crates with goodies from that xpac in them. You should get Mr. Pinchy pretty fast. I don't think it took me longer than an hour to fish up any of the Mr. Pinchy's for this post, so hopefully you're just as lucky. I'm not sure they increased the drop rate, but since the pools spawn so fast, that's probably why!

After you catch him, this is where the fun begins. The item will grant you 3 wishes. You can use the item every 4 hours. It's completely random to what you will get from it. Here they are below:

Benevolent Mr. Pinchy: follows you around and fights mobs with you!

Furious Mr. Pinchy: very mad and will try to fight with you!

Mr. Pinchy's Blessing: and old flask buff, but you turn a cool shade of red!

Mr. Pinchy's gify: he gives you a gift that contains old health and mana potions!

The last gift is the best of all, Mr. Pinchy grants you the Magical crawdad Box (and an Achievement)! Sadly, I wanted to get another one just for this post, but after 18 unsuccessful wishes, I decided it was just better to write this thing and send all my luck to the person on the other end going on the hunt for him. If you decide to fish him up just for fun, or because you want him for your collection, let me know how long or how fast you got him! Good luck and happy fishing!

My Log:
1. Benevolent Mr. Pinchy
2. Furious Mr. Pinchy
3. Mr. Pinchy's Blessing

Qiraji Guardling Woes

I figured since I pretty much did a guide for every other mini pet that has been somewhat annoying to obtain, I should probably do the Qiraji Guardling too. I have to agree with most people in that this is probably one of the most, if not the overall worst, wild mini pet to capture! Here are some tips that can hopefully help you obtain this little one if you haven't already.

Firstly, camping on my main server was a nightmare. I forgot about it spawning on the 21st and went to bed. The next day... and pretty much every day after it was a packed mess on Skywall. I had made myself a Death Knight on a Brazilian realm earlier in the year when I was farming for a rare Lofty Libram and a few others. The realm I picked was Gallywix that only shared CRZ with Goldrinn. It was pretty quiet in Silithus with about 10-12 people camping at a high time to 5-8 people camping at a low time. Most people are lower levels too , so the playing field is semi fair with land mounts vs. flying mounts.

I know there are other realms too that I don't believe share any CRZ with anyone else. There is a lot more information on the Warcraft Pets forum post where players are sharing what realm they used and their own experiences. (Sign up to the site too if you haven't!!)

Next, as always, set up yourself NPC scan. If it goes off when you open your pet journal, I suggest checking off the box that lets you see pets that you didn't capture yet.

The only annoying thing I found with this was that sometimes someone would already have one and pass by you (probably just to show off ), and it would make it go off. I ended up keeping my WoW Folder open so I could exit, delete my cache, and log back on as quickly as possible. It only happened to me about 3 times, so not too bad.

Now where to camp? I will be using in game coordinates, so if you don't have Coordinates, download it! (or something similar)

My pet collecting friend, Junkanoo, caught one on release night around 37,80... it's on the outside of the wall - to your left as you're about to enter the Gates of AQ.
There is a critter that spawns right here. You know you're in the right  spot!
I can guarantee that one does indeed spawn around that area because when I was there yesterday, one spawned, but I lost it to a priest with a flying mount *swoop*. I cried then congratulated them on their catch.

Last night I decided to log back on and wait while it was really late. I was in the same spot - 37,80. There were a few people there, but not many. I waited about two hours before one finally popped, but she wasn't in the area I was waiting in. She spawned further back... closer to the road at 35,79.

The road is behind me. She spawned in this area.
Map view
I never ran so fast on a land mount in my life. I engaged her, she was a rare, and she was mine!

Don't freak out like me and forget you're using level 25 pets. Too risky!

While I have to say that camping is definitely NOT my favorite way of obtaining a mini pet, I did have some good conversations with some people on the Brazilian realms despite the language barrier. They all loved my Tyrael! I didn't meet anyone who was rude or griefing. Overall it was a pretty good experience, and it didn't take me that long to get. If you can make the time to go there at night, definitely do so - the later the better. It might even be easier now that it's a weekday and not the weekend. If you're still having trouble, don't fret, Summer should last quite a while longer! Before you know it, you will have a little Qiraji Guardling to call your own! Happy hunting!

"Pet Cage" Bug

I had heard the horrors of this occurring, but I never experienced it myself until today. I'm going to go ahead and call this the "Pet Cage" bug. What seems to happen is that your pet, whatever it may be and regardless of level, simply turns into a Pet Cage with nothing to be done about it. Clicking on it gives you the text error: "Internal Error".

A former Fiendish Imp.
It wasn't that big of a deal for me, because what happened was I had an extra Fiendish Imp up on the Auction House, I cancelled it, and it was "Pet Caged" when I tried to retrieved it from my mailbox. I also have a Menagerie Custodian up, so I hope it will be safe. I will let the auction end on its own to see if that makes a difference. I will definitely post my findings on the custodian when the auction ends tomorrow... hopefully it doesn't change. I also sold a Porcupette yesterday, and I didn't hear from the buyer so I'm assuming that sale went through perfectly fine.

While I do make my gold by using the auction house, I don't really dabble in mini pet buying and reselling. I do feel for those who do though... or those who bought an expensive mini pet only to be delivered a pet cage. However, there is some hope. It seems that Blizzard is definitely aware of the issue, even though I don't believe they are posting about it on the forums, and will hopefully pop in a hot fix for this soon. Until then, I suggest reading through the following threads and definitely holding on to any mini pets you have, unless you're selling them via trades. The auction house just isn't safe enough right now. If you have a "pet caged" mini pet, just stick it in your bank in hopes that it will be fixed. My little guy will be spending his days in my guild bank hoping to turn back into an imp someday.

Update (6.8.13)
I logged on today to check my auctions. My custodian sold and I didn't have a message or anything from the buyer, so I think everything went alright with that sale. I did forget I had a Harbinger of Flame up, and sadly it was returned to me "Pet Caged". So I will definitely be staying away from selling pets via AH for quite a while.

Blog Azeroth: Junk Mail or Repurposed?

It's that time again for another wonderful shared topic from Blog Azeroth:

"What junk or grey items in game should be made to be used for spells or buff foods, etc? There are many fun items that no one wants, but could be used in imaginative ways!"

This is actually quite a funny subject to me. My collector friend Rocky (where are yooooou??) once asked me if I had any idea what the Exquisite Murloc Leash was for. After telling him it was just vendor trash and nothing more, we went on a discussion about how cool it would be to actually be able to use it.

He said that he would be keeping a few just on the off chance that Blizzard would implement a system that allowed you to use it to basically "tame" a murloc! Since most of the murlocs were only obtainable via Blizzcon or from International contests, how cool would it be to be able to find one, use the leash on it, and tame it. Of course, I would imagine you would only be able to keep three, and they wouldn't be cageable like other pets from the wild. I think my murloc of choice would be Cruelfin!

Before I go, I want to thank my WoW bestie Mr. Waffles who once again surprised me with a new mini pet. I feel so lucky and spoiled sometimes! :)

Adorable!

Val'kyr Hunt

So, I hope 5.3 is treating everyone well. I have to say that the most epic part so far was the Horde quest line (I have no idea what you Ally are doing) that took us to Sen'jin village to side with Vol'jin, Thrall, and Chen to overthrow Garrosh and basically take back Orgrimmar. I've never wanted to fight so hard to get the Horde back to being a proud race - not a race hell bent on destruction!

I was also super excited about the mini pets coming in this patch. So far, Vel has only collected two of the raiding with leashes pets - Menagerie Custodian and Netherspace Abyssal. I'm not worried about buying the on the auction house... I'll get them when I get them. On the other hand, I was extremely worried about getting the Unborn Val'kyr. I had been keeping up with the thread on the Warcraft Pets forum about the PTR and was worried that no one could find the "trigger" to make them spawn. Now with the patch being out a day, I think it's pretty clear that they spawn whenever they feel like it, but I think in certain places. While many users seem to have found success in Sholazar Basin and Zul'drak, I ended up catching mine in Crystalsong Forest. Below are the tips I used to catching myself an Unborn Val'kry.

As any collector, NPC Scan is my friend. One of the first things I did after the servers went live was add the NPC ID to my addon. Now, some people said that they were experiencing it going off when they would open their pet tab in WoW, but I never had an issue with it. However, on my filtered options I only show "collected" pets so that could be why. Try that if you're having an issue.

Tuesday, I spent my time flying everywhere. I must have scanned the entire continent of Northrend and saw nothing. I began to get frustrated, but I read a bit more on the forums and decided to camp a certain spots. I put Vel in Zul'drak and an alt in Sholazar Basin. I would log on and off every so often to check, but I saw nothing. I don't think this method is really that great because of her rarity mixed with CRZ and all the people looking for her.

Wednesday, I decided I would stay in certain areas. I flew Vel around Howling Fjord most of the day, because it seemed to be quiet and I always love the music in that area. I had no luck there either. I moved her to Zul'drak and stayed there for about 45 minutes of seeing nothing but little bunnies hopping around. Vel was bored, so we decided to go run Kara, TK, and SSC on alts to pass the time. After we were done, I decided I would fly back to Zul'drak to do a quick flyover then head to Grizzly Hills to camp for a while. I never made it there because I found her in Crystalsong Forest!

Sorry for the extremely crappy screenshot, but I snapped it as fast as possible before engaging in a pet battle. Luckily I was there because seconds after I was in the battle, someone flew over me. Hopefully they don't have to wait long to get their Val'kyr if that's what they were looking for.

Here was my exact location on the map: (coords - 68,49)

Of course she was poor quality, but I used a battle-stone to upgrade her. She is now fully leveled up too! I'm glad to have her join my pet battle arsenal! So maybe you can't go looking for the Val'kyr... maybe she comes looking for you? Who knows! I hope 5.3 is being good to all of you. Happy hunting!!!

I choose you, champion!

Blog Azeroth: The One!

Here we go, another Blog Azeroth topic. This was was a hard one:

"What is your absolute favorite profession in WoW? Why do you love it above all others and what is one feature you would add to the profession if you could?"

I'll be completely honest, I hate leveling up professions. I only do it just because I like seeing everything nice and maxed out on my main. All my alts have everything half-assed or not even learned. When I first started playing, I didn't put any thought into my professions. I picked Enchanting and Tailoring because I thought both would benefit me greatly as a spell caster/cloth wearer. I was right about one, but the other, not so much. While I had both maxed out at level 70, after that I could never keep up with enchanting. I ended up dropping it in Wrath to switch to Herbalism. I have an Alchemist alt that I can send all my herbs to if I don't want to sell that day.

While I really enjoy Tailoring (I really like collecting patterns), my all time favorite profession is Archaeology! Ever since I started playing I have been obsessed with AQ and the opening of the AQ gates. Sadly I wasn't around for that era, so all of my hopes and dreams of ever being a "Scarab Lord" were gone along with the beautiful mount. The battle tanks that you can mount in the AQ raid was just a tease too. So when I saw you could get a mount that looked just like them from Archaeology, I was jumping for joy. Surprisingly I got that mount pretty fast. It's still one of my favorites to this day. Now the Tol'vir hand took me quite a bit longer... but we won't talk about that because it makes me upset!

If I could add one feature to it, I think I might add more cosmetic items. I'm not talking about more of the junk that just sits in your inventory, and you only pull it out to impress your friends while you're sitting in the city. Maybe we could get some transmog gear from it. I would love to see them add some kind of "scourged" artifacts. Maybe they could allow us to get some "replica" models of some of the beautiful robes that were taken out of Naxx 60 and never reintroduced (I'm aware the 2nd had a look alike, but it doesn't drop anymore). I'm sure there is also some beautiful plate, leather, and mail that others would like too. I won't hold my breath on it, but it would be something I would like to see. :)

See how nicely it fits in!
--------------------

And now for something completely unrelated to the BA topic - My gosh, patch 5.3 notes! Everything I'm seeing from it is blowing me away. Seriously, I'm loving the entire Isle of Thunder and everything, but I have never wanted to destroy Garrosh more in my entire life... EVER. So who do you think will be the next Warchief for the Horde? At first I was thinking Vol'jin, but once I saw how Lor'themar took control of the situation on the Isle of Thunder, I changed my mind. Now I'm not so sure once again. I guess we'll just have to see. So excited!

Fishing for Carp

I know a lot of people are getting frustrated with the Tiny Carp mini pets. At the beginning as I was having flashbacks of attempting to fish up a Sea Turtle mount in WotLK. I used to farm hours for it along the coasts of Borean Tundra, and I ended up getting it randomly one Saturday during the Kalu'ak Fishing tournament from a pool in Grizzly Hills.

Anyway, here are a few facts I know (from personal experience) about the carps.

- I caught all of mine at different times of day with different weather conditions happening. I don't believe this has anything to do with how they are fished up.

- My fishing skill is maxed out. I wore only my Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat (with the buff applied) and used my Kalu'ak Fishing Pole.

This next one is the most important one...

- I DID NOT fish any of the carp up from pools!

At first I was using the "fish of the day" as a guide for which pools would possibly get me the carps faster. After a few days of getting nothing, I changed my game plan. I do not have an estimate of how many casts I have, but I did get three of the four carp in a matter of two days using my method. After taking a break over the weekend (to move into my new place), I caught the stubborn remaining carp in one day.

Now here are pictures of each location where I fished up each carp.

Townlong Steppes

Tip: Stand on the rock in the middle of the pond while fishing to avoid mobs.

Vale of Eternal Blossoms

Valley of the Four Winds

Kun-Lai Summit

This carp was my last catch and definitely took the longest to get. Very rewarding to finally get him!

Please remember, what worked for me may not work for you. There are no "magical spots" that let you fish up the carp faster. If you find yourself getting burnt out, fish for about an hour or so in one location and then switch to the next. A good thing about fishing in Valley of the Four Winds and Kun-Lai Summit is that you can take advantage of killing world bosses in between fishing. Also, you may get a good bit of Sealed Crates. The contents and fish are basically free gold if you aren't using the mats to level up a profession.

Remember it's just a game and mini pet collecting was meant to be fun, not cut throat competition. Good luck to everyone on their carp journey. They truly are wonderful little mini pets. Now, grab a Kungaloosh, relax, and keep on fishing! ;)
